The KABC Korea Business Forum / SPECIAL SESSION
together with Delphi Group in Japan
The Russian Invasion of Ukraine:
Implications for Korea and Japan
8.00am – 10.00am, Tuesday 8 March 2022 at the Online Seminar Room
Dear member,
The rapid adoption of sanctions on Russia by most of the world’s leading countries including Korea and Japan has everyone asking about the implications for Northeast Asia. No one has the definitive answer because this is an unfolding situation in which the end game is not defined. However the one thing we have learned is that once the US and EU impose sanctions they hang around destroying business opportunities for a long time.
Our idea is that this is a meeting of sight impeded persons trying to determine the shape of the elephant in the room. Each person attending will have some idea about a part of the problem and in discussion we will create a set of observations and hypotheses to be explored in future sessions. There will be no prepared slides only a zoom discussion with a downloadable summary after the event.
The agenda considers:
- Exposure to interruptions in trade with Ukraine and Russia
- Korean/Japanese investment in Russia and Ukraine
- Other country’s sanctions on Russia
- Impact on the Korean presidential election if any
- Geopolitical changes in the neighbourhood as result of the reaction to the war
- Impact on North Korea
The timing is chosen to avoid discussion of the results of the Korean presidential election which takes place the following day. Our regular session on Thursday March 17 will be about the results of the Presidential election and will include a summary of the discussion on March 8th.
Yours sincerely
